Date: May 2, 2014
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
You can help your neighbors and have a great time – all at the same time.  Join the local Red Cross for a Fire Fighter Labor Auction!  The Fire Fighter Labor Auction is set for 6PM on Friday, May 2 at Collins Ballroom – 317 E. Lee Street and is part of the Heroes Campaign to support the local Red Cross disaster services.  Fire Fighters from Sapulpa and Okmulgee are participating in this event.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door, or in advance at the Red Cross, 19 N. Main Street, Sapulpa, OK.

“We hope everyone can come out and enjoy the fire fighter labor auction,” said Nikki Smith, Senior Director, Field Organization.  “The organizers have put so much time and energy into bringing this event to life.  We want to thank our sponsors of this event; Sapulpa Fire Fighters, Okmulgee Fire Fighters and Western Sun Federal Credit Union in Okmulgee.  Those who come out for it will have some great fun and know that they’re helping the Red Cross to help the community. “Nikki Smith added, “All of the money raised will stay right here in Creek County.”

Proceeds from the Fire Fighter Labor Auction will benefit the local Red Cross, which last year responded to near back-to-back disasters: devastating tornadoes, relentless wildfires fueled by record-setting heat, damaging floods and dozens of home fires.

Home fires are the most common Red Cross disaster response.  Since July of last year, the Red Cross in Creek County has helped 38 families after fires and provided more than $15,275 in financial assistance to help with immediate needs such as temporary lodging, food and clothing.

“The average cost to help a family of four begin to get back on their feet is $1,000,” said Nikki Smith.  “So you can see why events like this one are so important.  In fact, the Heroes Campaign is absolutely critical to making sure the Red Cross is able to continue being the place where people can turn when they’ve lost everything.”

The Fire Fighter Labor Auction is just one part of the Heroes Campaign which invites members of the community to step forward and volunteer to raise $1,000 to support the work of the local Red Cross.  Heroes may raise the money any way they choose.  Some hold special events or promotions.  Others simply ask friends and associates to donate.
